I live near Rochester, NY and here you can't do your own plumbing. I couldn't get a building permit for the house without having a LICENSED plumber apply for the permit. He did the roughing in and I installed the fixtures. -- Joe You mean some places force you to hire a contractor, not just meet the regs? I thought the USA was the land of the free. In the UK you can do just about everything yourself as long as you follow the national codes which are tough. There are two exceptions - gas and electric installations. Gas installations have to be done by a qualified professional. You can do the Electrics yourself but they you have to get them checked by the local building control officer - in practice they are too busy so they force you to pay a quilified electrician to inspect, test and certify the work. Do anything wrong and they can make you rectify the work. . |
