I once watched a crew taking down a large brick building and palletizing the (cleaned) bricks. They were using plain pieces of steel about 3/8 thick X 2" X about 15" long. A little tape wrapped around one end for a grip. Probably the more heft the better within limits of your wrist strength. Made myself one of these and it was way faster than a chisel. Cradle the brick in one hand and give the piece of mortar a whack at a low shear angle. Sometimes an entire mortar slab would come off with one hit.
