I'm an architect, and I use AutoCadLT, which is the "light" version of AutoCad. It doesn't have full 3-D rendering capabilities, so I dunno if your people would like it, but it is the bomb for construction drawings. Easy to learn and use, and it's compatible with everything because, well, it's AutoCad. I barely use computer programs for 3-D stuff anymore, because it takes me twice as long to render something on the computer as it does to just draw it by hand, and frankly, people seem to like the hand drawings better anyway.
