Thanks for all the advice folks. I mocked up two stringers 12" apart with a 16" piece of 5/4 Trex on top of it. It seems to be as solid as a rock. This is pessimistic of course, because it's less stable with the ends of the boards beyond the two test stringers flapping in the breeze, as it were. I have two inches of nose hanging off in front, except another 5/4 piece jammed up against the bottom so really only 7/8" of nose. I think I'll back off to 5/8" of nose, just to be extra careful. I think the nose has gotta be what Trex is worried about. One of their reps also alluded to the stuff getting kinda soft in the hot sun, so maybe if I lived in Phoenix and had no shade trees, it could be an issue. I agree with whoever said the warranty probably ain't worth the trouble, the way companies "stand behind" their products these days. What really matters is what |
