      I don't think you want to run RMC (rigid metal conduit) under
ground - it will rust.  I'd run the line in NMC (the grey plastic
stuff).  This way, you dont need to worry about grounding the actual
conduit (but there will be a requirement to run a ground back to the
main panel or have seperate grounding rods for the sub panel).  How the
conduit exits and enters the building will depend on the specific
circumstances, but there are fittings and junction boxes that can make
this easier/neater.  Some inspectors might also want to see a bell-end
fitting on the conduit where the wire exits.  Finally, whatever conduit
you run, you must assume it will fill with water at some point.
Therefore you don't want to run "Romex", as it's not waterproof.  Run
UF (underground feeder) type cable.
