As others have noted, this WILL act as a moisture barrier, which is not a bad thing if the house envelope is designed for that. In fact, the plastic and aluminum coating will be a complete barrier for moisture, having an extremely low "perm" rating. You can also get perforated material that will let moisture to transfer through. The air gap is necessary to prevent conductive transfer through the material.
