Vents serve two purposes, letting fresh air in, and exhausting sewer gasses out. The air admittance valves only solve the problem of air coming "IN" to the system. Without a supply of air to replace what the draining water takes away, the drain will go glug, glug, glug, and can potentially syphon water out of the traps. It's like pouring liquid from a can that has only one hole. Punch a second hole so air can get in, and it flows much better. However, the valves do nothing to "exhaust" the sewer gasses to the air. Somewhere in the system, you'll still need a standard vent to accomplish this. |
