I have a garage that was constructed using Engineered Roof Trusses. (I am in a rural area, no permits, inspectors, house is 25 years old, house will not be resold it is owned by the family) The Trusses are W trusses with a large area in the center web, 12' wide at base by 21 feet long. We are in desperate need of room so we are converting the garage into a family room and also adding a new mud/laundry in part of it. Orginally I was just going to add a partition wall but after the discovery of all the space in the attic, have come up with another solution. The bottom chord is 2x4 all on 24" centers. One half of the web sits on a loadbearing wall below. The other half is clear span 21 feet. I am placing the new wall under the other half of the web. Then will go back and run 12' 2x12 16" oc in between the existing chords to support the new floor in the attic. Both ends of the 2x12 will sit on |
