Have the level of quality spelled out with drawings and specifications in advance of construction. There is no one level of quality and there is no other way of telling the contractor what you consider to be quality and no other way of having an objective bench mark to judge the work in place except an agreement in drawings and specification. You could buy and study the locally accepted residential building code. that would give you information on the number and size of nails for specific connections and so on. Then, there is the matter of plumbing code, electrical code, energy standards. I think you are right to be concerned about quality of work. The best way is to talk to several recent clients and make a judgement on those reports. TB . |
