Re: sump pit odor - foul - How to clean?????

The smell is not fecal smelling. It's kinda like a very musty rotten egg smell. I ran clean water from my hose down to the pit yesterday for 45 minutes and kept discharging the water thru the pump which ran the water out into the street. The musty smell was back this morning. Not as strong, but came back. Again, nothing drains into this put but the dehumidifier. I checked the coils on the dehumidifier and all are clean and no mold. If I don't run the dehumidifier into the pit and use the drip bucket, there is no smell and the pit doesn't sting. As soon as I run the hose to the pit from the dehumidifier, it smells again. I did notice a lack of rock at the bottom of the pit. I'm wondering if this could be a problem. The rocks at the bottom of the pit may need to be changed as they look a bit discolored. Maybe if I remove the existing rock and put in some other type of stones this smell will go away. Has |
