I am installing some footings to repair a "lean-to" style shed attached to the back of my garage. Currently the load from the 4x4 posts is supported by pier blocks resting on the ground. I would like to pour some concrete footings as follows: 30" deep hole wide enough to fit my tamper down, undisturbed soil on bottom. 6" 5/8" minus crush rock tamped. a 10" sonotube will give a finished appearance above grade. simpson post base (with standoff) embedded in concrete. I have checked with a geotech engineer who assures me that these are way overkill for the loads involved. I just want something solid that I can forget about. My question is how to do the rebar. I was planning something along the lines of an "X" of #4 bar on chairs at the bottom (ends sufficiently far away from the dirt). For vertical reinforcement would one axial bar be enough? I could do the cage thing with 4 #4 vertical bars wired to some |
