Roofing/siding questions

I just finished rebuilding my kitchen porch roof, and I need to reinstall the siding. I am unsure of how to proceed in the area where the fascia meets the wall. Photos here: http://www.canleyworks.com/porch.html I will install a kick flashing to direct water away from the siding at the bottom of the roof/wall junction. This should keep the fascia/wall junction area dry, I suppose. But I am not sure whether I should install the siding so that it contacts the fascia, or leave a gap. In either case, should I take any particular precautions to seal in this area? Also, how much gap should I leave between the roof surface and the shingles, along the step flashing? I have received advice ranging from 1/4" to 1-1/2". Thanks! -Mark . |
