The pin is fired in at such a velocity that the steel will act as an elastic manner, it will split out and then try to reform it's original shape(consequently pressing against the pin and holding it) I would postulate that any loss of total strength could be measured in ounces for the average red-iron beam... Perhaps we will do as you suggest and hire an international team of metalurgist to investigate this particular beam, we could utilize some x-ray scans of the beam to determine if their are any cracks beyond 3 |
