Thanks for the reply. I do the best I know how, & am learning how to be firm with clients who ask for finish work before structural is done. Not doing the right thing could well turn out to be the hard way for both myself & client, and I can already think of two jobs in the last 4 years where trying to please client and naively plunging ahead may in the long run cost all of us. On my present job I've drafted a schedule for the client to show him whether we can meet the June 1 deadline with unforeseen extras that cropped up, and his hope that all his ideas can be implemented. (already one month over schedule, $1200/month opportunity cost in lost rent). He's very generous in allowing for time & materials arrangement, which is a relief given the state of this old house. I guess I just have to be more assertive in saying what a good job entails & |
