My daughter purchased a 1959 era house, and got a discount from the seller contingent upon the upgrade of the electrical system, which had been inspected and found wanting. The electrical outlets were reverse polarized, and the possibility of upgrading the service from 100 amp to 150 amp. I found the problem with the outlets: apparently the owner had attempted to add a ground to the system, grounding all the boxes, and installed grounding outlets, but when the outlets were reinstalled, the hot wire and neutral were interchanged on the outlets, therefore making the outlets reverse polarized. I am in the process of changing this, and adding GFCI outlets where necessary. The water heater is gas, and the electric stove is going to be removed and a gas stove put in the kitchen. The heating system is a boiler with hot water baseboards -- a three zone system. There is no air conditioning unit, |
