I calculated the concrete needed for the foundation, added up all the floor joists, studs, sheathing, etc. Calculated how much electrical, plumbing, insulation, sheetrock, and so forth I would need. Once I had the quantities, a few phone calls to lumber yards, a few visits to home centers, and some brief internet searches gave me the rough prices I needed. I made sure to include the cost of tools I would need that I didn't already have, the costs of building the formwork for the foundation, the costs of nails and other fasteners, and the various permit fees. I added an extra 10% to the calculated total for unknowns and price |
