Plan for new addition, but it costs too much to begin!

Dear All Helpers, I don't mind to do everything I can, but most of the works from planning to completion, general contractors do not want me to involve - pay! that's it. I live in Irvine where it is considered another expensive place in CA. Therefore, GCs normally charge the most money ($110- $120 per sqft - $132,000 to $144000 for 1200 sq-fts addition which I buys flooring, fixture materials for installation .etc...) for the same works that could be done with cheaper rates in the other areas. But my pocket tells me that the most that I could spend is $80,000 for that project, which I really need for my expanding family. I know this compromise is very hard to achieve, but I think I could do it with your practical ideas. I would like to be a general contractor myself. First I could save some money to buy better quality materials and furnishings. Second, I could pull some of my parents, wife, son, daughter and neighbors to help me a hand (I |
