Granite adhesive question

I'm tearing out a half wall between my kitchen and living room. I'd like to replace it with a breakfast bar, with a granite slab top. I plan to make the base out of welded mild steel with a piece of 1" marine ply on top. The granite will get attached to that. What is a typical adhesive to secure granite to plywood? I want something with a high shear strength because my design is such that failure of the adhesive could result in a slab of granite sliding around and possibly off my base. Should I be thinking of mechanical fastening? How would that typically be done? I like the look of a bull nose edge as opposed to something like capturing the granite in some kind of frame.
