From what I understand "high rise" condo's in Florida are built using piles driven into the bedrock (the reef) below the sand. The sides might rip open in some parts but the condo structure itself will stay intact making the stairways and hallways most safe. It's the one's under 5 stories or so that are built on the surface of the land that crack in half and crumble. I've lived in oceanfront condo's in South Florida for the past 30 years and never seen any damage to mine or other condos. The last impending hurricane, to convince my wife to stay put, I challenged her to find any photos or articles of severely damaged "High Rise" condos past and present and we couldn't find any. If anyone knows of any please forward the URL to me. I |
