The previous sentence seems to imply that it was from Termini to his hotel just across the Tiber, in which case I would say "exorbitant" rather than just pricey. But why barter? Rome taxis have a meter, and I am sure that this trip would cost much less than 40 euros. This sounds to me very much like a scam offered by one of the "Taxi, mister?" operatives who waylay travellers at Termini and shove them into private cars rather than real taxis. Alan Harrison . |
