In praise of Utrecht

(Being sort of a trip report, but only sort of.) I took the scenic route to Utrecht, via a week at a conference in Norfolk, VA, where it was annoyingly hot, annoyingly American, annoyingly racially segregated and annoyingly defacto curfewed at sundown. Flying back to Schipol with North-West for a 09:12 arrival wasn't exactly fun, and there was a minor hiccup meeting my best belovèd at the airport, but as soon as we got to Utrecht things improved drastically. The Grand Hotel Karel V (<http://www.karelv.nl/start/>) is vair vair nice, in particular, and really not that expensive at weekends, and Utrecht is a pretty town with plenty of Old Stuff, including a cathedral, and it is safe enough to walk around at night.
