In many places there were, in fact, firm boundaries between neighboring Indian territories. And I use the term Indian, because in my experience, it the most prevalent term used by Indians. I have worked extensively providing services to Indian performers and powwow organizers, and the prevalent term among Indians is "Indians." It's not universal, and some prefer "Native American" or something more specific such as "Wampanoag," and some prefer to avoid ethnic labels. But "Indian" is certainly not |
