My experiences in Ireland are probably closer to Padraig's than the others - even though I avoid urban areas. I've been coming to Ireland annually for the last 15 years, 3 or 4 weeks at a time. I haven't been to Dublin since 1991, and don't expect to ever go there again. I go to Ireland to photograph and document Early Christian (and some early Medieval) sites around the Republic. I travel alone (me and my camera equipment), drive a couple of thousand miles in a rental car each trip, and stay exclusively at B&Bs. I enjoy the evening pub culture, but I always try to stay in rural B&Bs (quieter) which would require driving at night and - at 71 - I'm not about to do that. So I tend to spend my evenings planning the next day's travels, and writing my daily trip journal. I interact well with everyone I meet - as limited as those options are - and get a lot of interested questions at B&Bs about "what |
