We stayed in Aachen, and as evening falls on the huge central market square, it is an absolute delight. The historical sites from Charlamagne's time are also extraordinary. Doing Maastricht as a daytrip from Aachen was a bit dull in comparison--but maybe relaxing in the early evening Maastricht would have seemed just as enjoyable. Or maybe it depends on the beer... . |
