We contested thru the cc (can't remember if it was visa or mc) - we had actually cancelled the card at the end of the trip and opened a new one. Not only did they not take our side and cancel payment, that was how we found out that a bill against a cancelled card is still honoured by our bank (NAB) up to 12 months after cancellation - from the current card account.
