No, you need to make a case for why an ID card helps the police, it's certainly not obvious - certainly they'll be some cases where it simplifies identifying people, however it will also consume resources dealing with the forgetful and contrary who don't have an ID card. Then there's the overall cost - billions of UKP in the case of the UK, how much would the same money spent instead on other policing activities be more productive in preventing crime. |
