Palma: do they hate tourists?

I recently visited Mallorca and visited a lot of places including Palma taking photos and stuff. I found that Palma is quite different from the rest of Mallorca, almost like Palma is for them, the rest is for tourists. In my opinion I found a lot of people working in Palma quite rude, in their tone of voice, giving bad service, etc. I didn't really take it personally though because this was in non-tourist areas and with my Spanish being quite bad I often had to hope they spoke English, and I guess if people from another country _expected_ me to speak their language I guess I'd be rude to them too. I found that being generous with tips seemed to make them more friendly and often improved their English too. Would I be right in thinking that people living in Palma generally don't like tourists? If my Spanish (and/or Catalan?) was a bit more fluent could I have expected them to be more friendly? . |
