Like anywhere else, there are regional differences in Germany. To me, the Berlin pronunciation of the "ch" in "ich" has a sound like that in Scottish "loch" but the Bavarian sound is like that at the end of "fish". When the word is sung, the smoother Bavarian sound seems common. Despite the fact that I was taught that Berlin pronunciation was "official", you will be hard put to find a Bavarian who agrees :-) James Silverton. . |
