theco, Have a pleasant visit. You'll still be here for the Canstatter Volksfest. If you prefer wine more than beer, visit the French village section, where they serve French food and wine. If you haven't climbed the tower in Hoehenpark Killesberg, the tower architecture is nice as are the views which I consider the best in Stuttgart. The nice dahlia garden will also probably be in full bloom. Another nice view point is the Grabkapelle on the hill NE of town, and the wine museum is nearby in Uhlbach. You mentioned walking in the woods; on the west side of town walks can be combined with eating outside or having a beer at the Baerensee or Katzenbacher Hof. The ride on the U-15 to the TV tower (re-opening in October) is nice for the views, and in winter there may be considerable snow while downtown in the valley there is none.
