Ten or fifteen minutes more or less is only a small part of wasted time -- All this talk about train time carefully avoids the time getting to and from the train, organising one's time to be sure to get to it on time, and waiting for it anyway. Time is the tourist's greatest expense. ( I once pro-rated my airfare, and hotel expense on a trip to London, and realized I was spending over four pounds to wait on hold with an airline merely in order to re-confirm). The assumption that one cannot go back to one's hotel or B&B and kick back in Venice is strange. Venetian hotels and B&B's have places to put your feet up too. But the OP clearly wants to stay outside Venice no matter what. Happy journey.
