Zermatt - Gonergrat or Klein Matterhorn?

Hi folks, I am in the process of planning a 10 day European hop in Mid-September taking in three or four places, which will be a combination of cities and scenery. One of my stops will be Zermatt, and I will have one full day there (two nights). On this day I plan to either go up to Gonergrat or Klein Matterhorn - which has the edge and which would you choose? The Gonergrat trip seems to be the more popular one. I know the Matterhorn is visible from Gonergrat, but to be honest as impressive as it is I think it is overly photographed and I long for a bit of change. If I am doing Gonergrat, I will either walk up and train it back down or vice versa - I will be carrying four camera lenses and a tripod with me, so I expect I will do the hike down unless I'm feeling particularly exuberant on that day. I am not sure about the Klein Matterhorn trip, but have read reports |
