I have much less interest in the Spanish Caribbean. And I prefer places that have potable water. In St. Lucia I did not spend much time in Castries, but I don't recall peddlers. What I do recall in St. Lucia is being constantly hassled by the taxi cab drivers looking for a fare. The problem is St. Lucia has too many taxis. So they are idle most of the time. This, of course, encourages aggressive behavior to get rides, but also means the fares have to be higher to make up for all the time they don't have fares. But other than getting out of the airport (Castries is the only one I've flown into) you can get around fine using the buses. Including getting to the Castries airport.
