Lief, Becca, Very true. Chaperones can't control everything, and yes, it was bad judgment on the girl's part, as any place in the world can be unsafe if you're not paying attention or doing the wrong thing. My concern with the US news coverage is that they're missing the point...as usual. And because the US media continue to spin the story by not reminding us that unsafe behavior can lead to trouble *anywhere*, Aruba now has a public relations nightmare on their hands. I do believe, however, that any fallout in the tourist industry there will mainly be from reduced numbers of US visitors, as the rest of the planet generally has a wider viewpoint on world events.
