I returned from Belize two weeks ago. Fabulous destination! I spent 4 days in the jungle and 4 days on Ambergris Caye. Caracol is a day trip on bumpy dirt roads. Well worth it. I also encourage taking a day trip to Tikal, Guatemala. The Mayan ruins are beautiful. I stayed on the largest caye and it was not crowded at all. I spent time in the airport with several couples who had been on private islands- all had nothing but wonderful things to say about their trips. I did note however, that they paid far more then I did for snorkelling and sailing excursions ( we went to same places). I stayed at San Ignacio Hotel and The SunBreeze Hotel. I do not recommend spending any time in Belize City- it's ugly and dirty. Look up Discovery Tours. My guide was 100% Mayan. His name is Roberto and he was wonderful. I know you'll enjoy your trip!
