My family and I just cruised to St. Thomas and St. Martin in 2003. If you are docked in Phillipsburg, there are a few rental places right at the dock. They were so eager to rent me a car that I bartered beteween the competing companies for a minivan right there. I would definitely recommend driving around the island... some highlights would include baie rouge for a pretty lazy morning or orient bay for any watersports you want and the maho beach (sunset cafe) for lunch to watch a few planes land. Make sure you get a good map and leave plenty of time to return the car. In St. Thomas, you can catch an open air bus over to Magens Bay for $6. There will be a bunch of them parked pretty close to where you get off the ship and plenty more waiting to take you back. It is a beautiful and quiet beach that has a couple small shops and restaurants. . |
