Greenwin Property Management sued hundreds ex-tenants in small claim court

Hi, This is for a friend who is ex-tenant of Greenwin and got sued by them recently (yes after 4 years of tenacy termation). Greenwin Property Management now sued hundreds of ex-tenants in Small claim court for their somewhat 15% increase each since 1999. The amount can be over $1000 (depends on how long he/she lived there) plus interest, legal fees. They had a lawyer on the case. Tenants paid for the increase under rent control guide (around 2.9-3%) but lost the case in Ontario Rent Housing Tribunal. Of course Greenwin claimed all their renovation is relevant to the case. Any good legal advice for poor tenants to defend the case or maybe strike a better deal with Greenwin? Please email the ideas to this posting email address. Thanks in advance. . |
