- Dear Experts,
I have a very old fireplace, installed in the seventies.
It has what I think is a very flimsy mechanism for the
screen to keep the sparks in.
The screen hangs on rollers like this one:

About 1/2 inch wide, by 3/4 inch long.
It is not unlike something that you might see on
some kind of curtain rod. But...

I wouldn't use paint. Thoroseal would be a good choice.
